Feb 7, 2019 · Hello fellow Crosstrek owners. I own a 2017 Crosstrek that developed a high pitch in cab noise (like having your hearing tested). It would start around 60 miles an hour and stay constant no matter if you sped up or slowed down. Tried various remedies to solve it, but to no avail. When a bearing wears out or leaks, it will produce a high pitched grinding sound while a seized bearing will give off a grinding noise or a belt squeal. Honestly, the Subaru CVT is noisy. Even with the added transmission soundproofing cover (2014 +) you can still hear the metal mesh belt grind sound and some buzzing. I'm not a fan of CVT transmissions because they are quirky and noisy, I crossed them off my list when looking to buy a car.
