It look like you can take the 2 screws out the hold the pump in and remove the pump. Now take the gear #22 off and reinstall the pump. Unfortunately Merc does not make a cover for the hole when you remove the pump so it must be put back in to seal that hole. Mix your fuel 50:1.
Most Mercury oil injection pumps have a removable screw to allow the pump to bleed after you have repaired the oil injection lines (or in this case tank). Bleed the line as described without running the engine as above in the preceeding reply. Connect a remote fuel tank with a 50:1 fuel il mix. Mark the level of the oil tank with a marker.My husband used this to do an oil injection delete on a 2001 Mercury XR6 150 outboard. If you do not want to worry if your outboard is oiling while running and you want to pre-mix fuel, this plug is what you need. I failed a 98 mercury and also a 88-89 75hp evinrude with vro due to oil injection failure. Don't want to do the same with this one. I'm old school and don't mind pre-mixing. In the fuel part of the manual on page 3c-8 they have an oil pump test: Get a oil mix test tank at 50:1. Disconnect the output of the pump and divert to a calibrated container, plugging the line you removed to keep from messing up the fuel supply to the engine.
