Jun 2, 2022 · SPX options that expire on the third Friday stop trading the day before the third Friday (the third Thursday). On the third Friday, the settlement price is determined by the opening prices of each of the index's stocks. This price is the closing price for the expiration cycle. SPY options cease trading at the close of business on expiration Friday.
This has been my approach for the past year. .85 delta puts and calls on SPY & SPX based on direction. I don’t trade anywhere near the volume you do as I found the more I trade that approach the less I make overall. Usually 3-5 trades is all that I make per day max. 31.6/06/2022 — SPY opened at 414.78. Despite early stop losses on both strikes, the net gain for the day was $1330 per each $1,000 trades, 133% for the day trade.
