You can have 2 people die not even a quarter into the fight for every gate and still comfortably make it. I think you just need to get more used to the fight though.

The first 2 gates are pretty much the same. Attacks hit harder, but you should be used to them enough by now that you should be dodging most stuff. The only major difference (not the ONLY difference but the only one that actually made a dramatic impact) is the shield mech at x21 in gate 1. A smooth gate 3 where everyone survives to 40~45 bars and the lantern god can just come out and dps for the last bit leads to an extremely trivial ending. I do think gate 2 is just kind of generally easy. Edit: this is only about normal because you asked about normal, g3 is definitely the hardest in hard because of the extra phase Akkan Gate 2 is mainly focused around controlling your Disease Meter and interrupting Akkan's clones during different mechanics by using your Counter Attack skills.
