20 gauge hulls. So I am a 20 Gauge, skeet shooting, reloader. I have always used old style 20 AA's. never wanted to change and very happy with results. Have seen some go 15 reloads before giving up. I reload on a Mec progressive. I use a popular load with Unique powder and Claybuster wads. No issues. I recently tried a batch of Remington STS hulls.

Longshot. Remington SP20 wad. Win. 209 primer. You'll get a little over 1200 fps at somewhere around 12,000 psi. This is a maximum load so don't go beyond 18 grs., and don't change the wad or primer components. You can obtain about the same performance with 25 grs. of Hodgdon's HS-7.

Longshot is dirtier burning than the other two but it is a slower burning magnum powder. It was my powder of choice for 1 ounce loads or fast 7/8 ounce loads.

That said, the Winchester 20 ga wad (WAA20) and the Remington RXP 20 (but pricey) wad work, as do the clone wads by Claybuster, Duster, and Downrange. I'd had good loads with the Windjammer 20 ga wad, too. For one oz loads, about the only wad available is the Remington SP 20 wad since Winchester no longer makes the WAA20F1 wad.

Just wondering what everyone's favorite heavy upland load is. My all time favorite is 1 ounce of sixes doing 1220 fps with a SP20 wad. This year I have loaded up plenty to make it through the season but have also made some 1 1/8 ouncers at 1175 fps as heavy hitters and 7/8 ounces doing 1470-1480...

I have an old Hercules data manual and the only 1 1/8 oz. 20 ga. loads it shows are 3". There is a 1 3/16 oz. 3" load as well. All use AACF hulls and Blue Dot powder and SP20 wads. It's interesting that the guide has a correction taped over the 3" 20 load data. The old DuPont data for short 1 1/8 oz. 20 ga. loads all use 4756.The Waa20F1 is a 1 oz wad, where the CB 1078 is a 7/8 oz.wad. SO, you probably won't have room enough for 1 oz. of shot, using the CB 1078 wad. With pressures that low, you could safely use a Remington SP-20, (or SP-20S), which is for loading 1 oz. loads. The only other alternative would be to use a Gualandi, European wad, which is made in 1 oz ...I also loaded them in the Old Rem RXP cases with the CCI209 primer and everything else the same. This load was at 1165fps, 9,800psi. These loads came straight out of the IMR manual and I loaded them for over 25yrs. No this wad isn't the same as the SP20 wad. A.There is no question whatsoever about the WAA20F1. It was a 20 gauge yellow wad with a short leg section and intended for 1 ounce loads.
