I'm still playing with a 1996 60SS, round would coome up like it was suppose to but after firing a few magazines worth, the spent cases were found to be dragging over the top of the round in the feed throat.

He brought it to me and said that it wouldn't feed at all, not even when he tries to manually load the first round. Sure enough, it won't. Older model 60s are notorious for feed throat issues. If you look, you will see that the feed throat itself is two pieces, riveted together. The newer style is a one piece with a slightly different lifter.

Try cycling the bolt by hand slowly and watch what happens to the cartridge. Just as the bolt pushes the cartridge out of the feed throat, the shell should pop up into the face of the bolt and be almost parallel to the barrel. Clean the rifle. Even if "not needed," it certainly won't hurt. 2. Check ammo. Low budget ammo can cause malfunctions. Of particular problems, many people have trouble with Remington ammo. Some folks have had trouble lately with Federal bulk ammo. Occasionally, just about any bulk ammo might be troublesome to a particular gun.

Try polishing the bolt with wet and dry sandpaper and cleaning / lubricating all surfaces it comes into contact with - including inside the receiver. Look for shiny marks inside the receiver. Check the mating surfaces of the new feed throat and bolt very carefully. Seems like your magic marker would pick this up.
