Berkeley does have grade deflation in engineering (I’d say -0.5, I’ll explain where I got this number from), but the problem is more that different majors have widely varying GPA standards and not just at Berkeley.

I've never seen a 94 be considered a middle A- until this school year. Also fair warning, in my experience a LOT of CS classes set the A/A- cutoff at 95% vs the usual 93%. For MOST premeds, you need high cGPA, sGPA, competitive MCAT (BTW, 29 MCAT is NOT competitive at all in CA or elsewhere!), strong research and clinical exposure, which either UC school can provide as long as you work hard enough.
