To check for a short in your system, just unhook your positive post on your battery, hook a test light to the cable and the other end to the battery positive post. If it lights up you have a short. My dash lights have been progressively getting dimmer during the day to the point I cannot read my odometer. I have change the dimmer control light switch which did not help.
