To get the biggest buffer set the imprint to be just over 1/2 that time to have 1 imprint to 100% the dino. Just over 1/3 or 1/4 of the time to 100% the dino with 2 and 3 inprints respectively. Example is your Rex matures in 59 minutes, then an inprint time of 15 minutes would mean you have 3 inprints to 100% and a 14 minute buffer.
