A melanistic Smilodon populator. I thought it would be interesting and cool to introduce melanistic colouring as it isn't see all that often in paleoart. I've taken a lot of inspiration from black leopards & jaguars, king cheetahs, and a number of big cat hybrids. I made a time-lapse of this one for YouTube!The root of the tooth is not black of course, I just coloured it that way to make it more visible. I also read somewhere that Smilodon has to cover its teeth since they're not made of the same material as the tusks of walrus, narwhals or tusked deers.
