I mean it's easier to get than aeon. In my experience at least and it's a faster grind. Not to mention the reroll chest the hall of heroes has. I got the gear for every school in 1 week. It's been 3 weeks of aeon and I only have a 4 pieces. 2 for fire, 1 for death, 1 for myth. Isn't the increase like super minimal from merciless to aeon anyways?
Nothing else is worth it if you have malistaire/exalted duel 100 gear and a pet, the time you would spend farming the reagents is FAR more than the time you’d spend soloing 130-150/160 in lv100 gear. The Dragoon gear was bad, but at least the reagents needed dropped with most fights and if you farmed during double reagents benefit, you could gather quite a few quickly. After that, it's just been drudgery. I'm thinking they want to make the crafting a chore so people will buy the card packs. All the Merciless gear was in the Lemuria pack.

Merciless gear is definitely worth it. Novus gear is the most grindy gear to get in the game. Merciless is much more attainable, not to mention there's the Lemuria World pack which is guaranteed to give you one piece per opening. From my experience, I got an average of 3 pieces per opening.
You don't absolutely have to have the new novus gear, you can absolutely get by without it. The stats on the novus gear is just a little bit higher than merciless, so you'll be fine. for pve it basically doesn't matter. you can beat everything solo with far worse than merciless. pvp is a totally different story.
