I've got about a month or two worth of total in game days played now, so I'm not certain, but I haven't struggled with infection yet. Whenever I get a scratch/laceration I either immediately put a sterilized bandage on it, or if i don't have any on me I put a clean one on and sterilize more on the fly or go back to base to prioritize treating the wound before infection can set in.Once your character has the zombie pathogen, they'll eventually die. It won't say you're infected on the health panel but after a few days you'll get queesy and then you'll get hungry and eventually your health will just start to go down until you die.
