The study area belongs to a region characterized by a semi-arid climate, where the average precipitation per year is comprised between 340 and 400 mm. In the last decade, there is a remarkable climatic change in this area.The province is characterized by a semi-arid Mediterranean climate in the north and arid in the south, with erratic rainfall that does not exceed 400 mm and an average monthly temperature of 9 °C in January and 37 °C in August (Benyahia et al., 2001). The population of the province has witnessed changes over the years of the study.
