just replace the clutch assembly.. not expensive. just did it on our 03 f350.. cost about $60 from autozone.. took a whole 30 min to do. but if that bearing goes out or locks up, it can burn up the belt or fry the compressor, over heating it , melting the seals. loosing the freon and costing 4x the amount to fix. i have had this happen before.

When the AC stops cooling, tap the face of the compressor clutch with a screwdriver handle. If the clutch engages, the gap is too wide. If the clutch does not engage, suspect the cycling switch on the accumulator.Most likely a leak and it's flat now. If it doesn't work at all. Probably off on the low pressure switch. With the truck running open the hood and see if the compressor is spinning or not. If it cycled the clutch on and off then it's almost certainly low on charge.
