If it's stuck open - hard to maintain pressure. The quick and easy check is to pull the vacuum line off the valve - if there's any fuel that oozes out - it's bad. They will give some answers on this. The way to determine if it's fuel or spark is to see if it will start with ether or gas sprayed into the throttle body or air box. If it starts then it's fuel, if not then it's spark and I would suspect the distributor first. But this is just my experience.
