Festus is Marshal Matt Dillon 's second official deputy in the town of Dodge City, Kansas (the first official deputy was Clayton Thaddeus Greenwood ). He comes to Dodge City in an episode titled "Us Haggens" to avenge the death of his twin brother, Fergus. He first appeared in 1962 and was part of the main cast from 1964 until 1975.
