If you run into buffering issues during transcoding, upping the default throttle buffer a bit can help to smooth out slowdowns in transcoding speed that can happenw when the bitrate of the source file spikes. I changed mine to 3 minutes (180) and haven't had any issues. The background transcoder setting does not apply to playback sessions.
