I spent years on the quest for the best duty shotgun back when I worked for a shotgun only department. Since I couldn’t have a patrol rifle, I wanted the best shotgun available. I had a Benelli M2. The 1301 is light as all get out but recoil is light. Like there is no way a shotgun that light should recoil this light. It was pretty reliable as well.

I also have both (M4 collapsible and 1301 PGLE) and concur. One advantage of the 1301 is the Pistol Grip LE version that comes with an extended mag tube and is 922(r) compliant. If you get the M4 and want to install a mag extension, well you can't easily as the extension doesn't count as a 922(r) part: only the entire tube counts.

The 1301 with these enhancements is a more usable and versatile shotgun than a box stock M4. We dominated the pump market, but the Italians ruled the semi-autos until recently when Mossberg released the 940 Pro Tactical semi-auto shotgun. I still don't see a lot of 1301s. They didn't really do a much better job with their ready out-of-the box gun than Benelli. The 1301 still needs the same work as most factory shotguns. I think the 1301 is a great shotgun, it just isn't as ready to race as advertised. The M4 is in no way "Better" than a M2, or 1301. It's just different. Those Berettas are stellar. The M4 was a dream come true. I had NO intentions of buying a 1301, and had no idea what it was. Then came across a YouTube video comparison of it and an M4 and thought, how dare you compare the 2 guns. But it drew me in, and well my M4 will always be my #1, the Beretta is my #1.5! Quote.Main difference is that the m2 will kick a little harder because it is light and inertial.
