For your first flashpoint, I recommend filtering the flashpoints. This will help your luck in having a good first groupfinder flashpoint. To filter which flashpoint you might get, click Filter on the bottom right. What flashpoints you see on this screen will vary depending on your level and what expansions you have unlocked.

This system is designed to prevent dead beat guild leaders. I for one like this system. It is the responsibility of the guild leader to log in and keep the guild alive. If you do not log in then you deserve to loose the guild. As far as how long the guild leader logs in is a factor of real life. I have 3 guilds, one I created, 2 I inherited.You can always create a F2P account and invite a character from that account to your guild and then have that character invite your alts.
